Heavy rain in Lahore increases humidity
LAHORE: The city received heavy rain again on Sunday in a brief monsoon spell that flooded roads and increased humidity in the evening.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials said the weather would remain partly cloudy in the next 24 hours with chances of thunderstorm and rain.
The rain made the weather pleasant, though only for a short time, humidity increasing soon after. The heat-stricken people went to parks, gardens and recreational spots, as it was a holiday.
A duty officer of the PMD said there were chances of thunderstorm and scattered rain in Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad, adding the weather would remain partly clout in DG Khan, Multan and Bahawalpur and there were chances of scattered rain in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala.
In Lahore, maximum temperature was 32.4 degrees Celsius and minimum 27.0 degrees Celsius. Maximum humidity in the city was 90 percent.
He said 9.7mm of rain was reported in city, 7mm at the Lahore airport and 3mm at Jallo.
In other parts of Pakistan, Kalam received 1mm rain, Jhelum 71mm, Kotli 7mm, Drosh 3mm, Balakot 3mm, Sialkot 89mm, Muzaffarabad 3mm, Malam Jabba 7mm, Mandi Bahauddin 5mm, Murree 4mm, Dir 7mm, Parachinar 54mm and the Islamabad Airport 6mm.
He said though the water level in rivers had increased, the situation was not alarming.
He said scattered thunderstorms were forecast at the upper Indus catchments and lower Indus catchments.
Water situation: A record 8.652 million acre feet (MAF) of water escaped downstream Kotri in the last 43 days. The water outflow at Kotri was 201,100 cusecs at 6.00 am on Sunday.
The position of water inflows/outflows at Mangla, Tarbela and the barrages and the reservoir levels at 6.00 am on Sunday was:
Rivers: Indus at Tarbela 263,300 cusecs inflow and 235,200 cusecs outflow; Kabul at Nowshera 50,500 cusecs inflow and 50,500 cusecs outflow; Indus at Chashma 322,500 cusecs inflow and 290,000 cusecs outflow; Jhelum at Mangla 40,500 cusecs inflow and 27,000 cusecs outflow; and Chenab at Marala 83,700 cusecs inflow and 49,900 cusecs outflow.
Barrages: Jinnah 306,500 cusecs inflow and 298,500 cusecs outflow; Chashma 322,500 cusecs inflow and 290,000 cusecs outflow; Taunsa 342,400 cusecs inflow and 330,600 cusecs outflow; Guddu 380,900 cusecs inflow and 351,500 cusecs outflow; Sukkur 308,200 cusecs inflow and 270,600 cusecs outflow; and Kotri 203,900 cusecs inflow and 201,100 cusecs outflow.
Reservoirs: Tarbela level 1,537 ft (dead level 1,369 ft); Mangla level 1,201 ft (dead level 1,040 ft); and Chashma level 645 ft (dead level 637 ft).
