'Ijaz coming to Pakistan to testify in memo case'

ISLAMABAD: The central character in memogate scandal, Mansoor Ijaz is coming to Pakistan to testify his 'truthful version' before the Honourable Commission as and when he may be required, said a statement issued by the Counsel of the US businessman in the memo case.

"Today (Saturday) certain segments of press carried an old statement of Mansoor Ijaz sent by him to the Commission prior to engagement of his Legal Counsel, which stands superseded by his formal legal stance taken before the Learned Commission," the statement said.

It clarified that the only application filed on behalf of Mansoor Ijaz is the one filed through his counsel on January 6, 2012.

"Contrary to the media reports our client has not written any letter/email "yesterday" to the distinguished inquiry Commission. Any verbal or written communications shall be done only through our office."

The statements also said the Federal Government had 'abused' the office of their Attorney General 'in exploiting' an earlier communication sent by Mr. Mansoor Ijaz to the Secretary of the Commission which was transferred by the latter to the Attorney General's Office. The only logical reason from leaking this privileged communication to the press seems to discredit our client, it added.

"It is expected that the process of the Honourable Commission shall not be abused by the Government or it's functionaries as this shall tantamount to an obstruction to justice at the highest level."
